This is the installation note for the downloadable form of the
"WWIN - Wireless Weather Information Network"
program, Version: 1.2 (as of 1/1/96).
Version 1.0 (10/25/94) was the initial public release of WWIN.
Version 1.1 ( 3/31/95) added the public-domain UNPACKER task.
WWIN requires MS-DOS 5.0 or later, MS Windows 3.1 or later,
a 386 or better, 4 MB of memory or more, at least 10 MB of
C: disk space, and an unused COM serial port. Windows needs
to be running for you to receive data, but you can do other
tasks while receiving data if you have a fast enough machine
(preferably a 486). \DOS\SHARE needs to be in your AutoExec.
If you have a previous version of WWIN already installed into
your Windows "StartUp" group, you should halt or remove the
WWIN and NOAARX (and SPOOLER and UNPACKER) tasks, to avoid any
conflicts during this new installation.
This software is shipped compressed, so you must let the
enclosed Install program do the installation.
You can install this software from whatever drive and subdirectory
path you used for extracting the download file.
You can install starting from the MS-DOS prompt or from MS
Windows, whichever is handiest.
a) At the DOS prompt, just type "x:\path\INSTALL"
as appropriate, and press [Enter].
b) In Windows, go to the Program Manager group. Click on
[File], then click on [Run...], and type "x:\path\INSTALL"
as appropriate, and press [Enter].
After checking that your PC has enough memory and disk space,
Install will ask you a few configuration questions to determine
how to set up WWIN. Install will then copy and decompress all
of the necessary files. Install will also create a WWIN group
and, optionally, add WWIN to your StartUp group if desired.
Note: this Install was intended for the local Washington DC test of
WWIN, and so only gives you a choice of nearby states. You can
edit the WWIN.INI file afterwards to select a different state, etc.
